The 2022 second-round draft pick has mesmerized MLB with his masterful skills as a southpaw. His development as a reliable starter has made him a huge success story so far this season.
His almost no-hitter is just the icing on the cake in 2026. In his debut this season, he recorded six scoreless innings against the 2025 World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This was a huge feat for the youngster, who only surrendered five hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. He also earned himself the win, showcasing dominance against a highly elite team.
Messick has also held hitters to just a .151 batting average. This complements his status as a pitcher who takes on the pitching mindset of a veteran despite his age.
Messick, whose arsenal consists of a strong changeup, showcases solid control on the mound. All in all, with the capability to attack the strike zone, he has sported high chase rates. He currently ranks in the 91st percentile with a 37 percent chase rate.
His rapid progression into the majors has aligned with the Guardians' plan of developing a savvy draft pick into a potent MLB starter. Similar to the Toronto Blue Jays' treasured rookie starter, Trey Yesavage.
