To say that Caitlin Clark's second WNBA season was disappointing would be a massive understatement.
A string of injuries limited her to just 13 games, and while she still performed at a high level on the court, she couldn't take the leap most fans expected.
That's why, now that she's about to enter her third campaign with the Indiana Fever, she's making it all about one thing: Health.
Talking to the media at training camp, the Iowa legend admitted that she needed to be smarter with her body.
"I was talking to (Fever coach Stephanie White) a little bit, and I’m the person that doesn’t want to sit out a single rep. I want to be in there every single time," Clark said, per James Boyd of The Athletic. "None of that has changed, but just being a little bit smarter with my body and understanding what it takes. And obviously, on camp days, like these days are really long, so taking care of my body at this point in the season is probably the most important thing. But like I said, I’ve never really sat on the sidelines before, so that was a very humbling experience."
Clark dealt with ankle, groin and quad injuries for most of the campaign. Even so, she averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.2 three-pointers per game, per Basketball Reference. However, her shooting splits (36.7/27.9/82.0) were all worse than in her rookie season.
She spent the previous offseason bulking up and getting stronger, and that approach may have backfired. Now, she's taking things slowly to make sure availability won't be an issue.
Clark is one of the faces of the franchise and the sport, and the game is always better when she can take the court.
After a disappointing campaign and watching other young stars like Paige Bueckers leave their mark, she'll most definitely be thirsty for revenge in 2026.
