Ernie Clement proving to be a spark plug for Blue Jays

Ernie Clement has picked up right where he left off in the 2025 postseason.

Clement is batting .302 with 26 hits this season. His strong efforts and consistency have moved him up in the batting order for the Toronto Blue Jays.

"Ern Dog" hit in the leadoff spot on April 12-13 when they faced the Minnesota Twins. The Blue Jays' utility player has developed into a key offensive contributor in many ways.

He's accomplished that through vigorous play, versatility and a strong aptitude to generate offense in high-stakes situations.

Ernie Clement continues to find success

Clement's value as a utility player has provided the team with stability, as he can play multiple infield positions, including shortstop, third base and second base.

He's shown his capability to stimulate offensive rallies and produce clutch hits. The 30-year-old helped the Blue Jays record back-to-back walk-off wins to open the season, notching the walk-off hit against the Athletics on March 28.

As an elite contact hitter, he also possesses good plate discipline by avoiding strikeouts. He ranks in the 99th percentile with a stellar 6.9% strikeout rate.

Clement has entered this season coming off a strong performance in 2025. Across 140 games, he batted .277 with a career-high 35 doubles. But Clement also provided elite infield defense with 22 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS).

His assertive base-running and ability to grind out plays are skills that were recognized not only in MLB, but also during the World Baseball Classic with Team USA.

Fans are going haywire over Clement, who has established his role as a solid contact hitter. In addition, he's sustained a strong presence in the Blue Jays clubhouse.

He's gone 26-for-86 along with nine doubles and a .717 OPS. He's provided a surplus of momentum that has had a positive effect on the team.
