The Pittsburgh Steelers still don't know whether Aaron Rodgers will be under center for them in 2026.
However, that doesn't mean they should go after his replacement unless they fully believe he can be a long-term solution. Considering that, they may not be interested in Alabama's Ty Simpson with the No. 21 pick. Instead, they might be looking at someone with a higher upside at another position of need.
Even with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., the Steelers need more weapons for Mike McCarthy's passing game. As such, and with most OTs already gone, they should probably go with Indiana WR Omar Cooper Jr.
The Steelers hosted WRs Denzel Boston and Makai Lemon for top-30 visits, so they're clearly still looking for pass-catchers after trading for Pittman. Cooper has some obvious ties to the Steelers, as he played under new WR coach Adam Henry in college. He didn't play in the most pro-style offense and could expand his route tree, but the speed and ability to pile up yards after the catch are impressive.
The national champion is also tailor-made for McCarthy's offense. He can line up all around the offense, including in the slot, which is something they don't have right now. For years, the Steelers have installed a run-heavy, somewhat outdated offense. That's going to change with McCarthy calling the shots.
Who knows? Maybe getting even another weapon will only help Rodgers make up his mind and say he's ready to run it back.
