New York Jets first round pick Kenyon Sadiq wasn’t sure if it was really his new team calling when he got word that he was going to be the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The Jets shared video of GM Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn calling Sadiq, as is customary, to inform him that he was going to be the second of their two first-round picks on Thursday. The Oregon tight end initially sounded unsure, but warmed up quickly once he realized what was going on.
Once he was speaking to Glenn, he admitted that he briefly thought he had fallen victim to a prank.
“I was thinking it was a prank call for a second,” Sadiq admitted.

Sadiq can hardly be blamed for his lack of certainty. Multiple draft picks fell victim to prank callers last year, with Shedeur Sanders the most prominent victim . It was later revealed that Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son was responsible for the prank.
Sadiq had 51 catches for 560 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns last season and should quickly emerge as a weapon within the Jets’ offense.
