The Pittsburgh Pirates have high hopes and big expectations for shortstop Konnor Griffin, and on Friday night, he celebrated his 20th birthday by checking a big accomplishment off the list by hitting his first Major League home run.
Griffin's first home run came off Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff in the top of the third inning, snapping what had been an 0-for-11 slump going into Friday's game.
Even better for Griffin: It was an opposite-field home run into the Pirates' bullpen, meaning he did not have to worry about negotiating something to get the baseball back from a fan.
Here is a look at his home run.

Griffin entered the season as the consensus No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, and arrived with such fanfare and hype as a 19-year-old that the Pirates already signed him to a nine-year, $140 million contract extension that is the largest contract in franchise history.
His first 20 games in the Major Leagues have been a mixed bag as he goes through the adjustments that will obviously come for a player that young in the Majors. He doubled in his first career at-bat, then went through an extended slump before heating up with a six-game hitting streak that included a couple of near-misses for his first home run. That was then followed by the aforementioned 0-for-11 slump that ended on Friday night with his home run.
