Kyle Busch reveals what motivates him during career-worst slump

At nearly 41 years old and amid the worst slump of his 20-year NASCAR Cup Series career, Kyle Busch is looking to his kids for motivation.

Busch, a two-time Cup champion and 63-time race winner, is in the midst of a 102-race winless streak dating back to June 2023. He's 27th in the series standings through the first nine races of 2026 and is without a top 10.

His children, Brexton, 10, and Lennix, 3, don't have many memories of their dad as the seemingly indomitable driver he once was, but Busch looks to them as he tries to get back to form.

"[Brexton] sees me looking at SMT film, or looking at data, being in the team meetings, or I'm gone half the week half the time through the week because I'm at sim," Busch said Saturday, per Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass. "I'm doing all I can from my standpoint to help further develop the team. It's for me to show him that there's a lot of work that goes into this."

Brexton Busch is becoming quite the driver in his own right and seems destined to carry on the Busch name on a big stage in the near future.

As much as Busch wants to show his son what it takes to be one of the best, he's also still trying to win for himself and his No. 8 Richard Childress Racing team.

"This is my life, our life, everything we've known," Busch said.

Kyle Busch sees hope in Austin Dillon

Busch's struggles with RCR are well documented, but it's not as if he's the only driver trying to find his footing. His teammate, Austin Dillon, is only 25th in the standings and is also yet to finish inside the top 10, though Busch said he likes where the No. 3 team is compared to his own.

"I gotta give credit where credit's due, Austin and [crew chief] Richard Boswell are clicking right now, and they're able to get the most out of their race cars," Busch said. "They're smart with what they're doing and being able to have all the right stuff. I feel like we're a little behind the 8 ball on the No. 8 car a little bit."

Busch will look for career win No. 64 in Sunday's Jack Link's 500 at Talladega. He won the 2023 spring race at the track.

Dillon and Busch will start 18th and 34th, respectively, on Sunday afternoon.
