Runner-up finishes may not sting as bad as they once did for Sheldon Creed, given that he's now a NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series winner.
What also might help ease the pain is that, despite two consecutive runner-up finishes, he's also won $200,000 over the last two weeks at Kansas and Talladega by virtue of NASCAR's Dash 4 Cash program.
But race drivers never want to lose, regardless of prior accomplishments or how much money they make.
Creed finished second to Corey Day in Saturday's Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega after the caution flew on the final lap.
"Honestly, a really good day," Creed told CW Sports. "Obviously was leading there at the end, and maybe just got too far out a couple times. I thought I missed a good block on the backstretch to maybe propel back to the 17."
Creed briefly battled three-wide with Day and Sam Mayer before the race for the lead became one between Mayer and Day. As the pack, including a spinning Mayer, flew apart behind Day and Creed, the latter didn't have a chance to mount a charge before the caution came out and ended the race.
Creed is second in the series standings through 11 races, 131 points back of Justin Allgaier for the points lead.
