Kevin Durant has managed to avoid criticism for most of his post-Golden State Warriors career.
However, every single team he's played for has both overachieved and imploded upon his arrival. That's why it's not much of a surprise to hear that the Houston Rockets might be having some serious buyer's remorse with the former NBA champion.
According to Michael Pina of The Ringer, Ime Udoka's team might be bracing to pull the plug on this experiment after just one year, and more than half of the NBA would probably get involved in his sweepstakes.
"The Rockets thought that KD was their missing piece, and instead, there’s a chance they’ll turn him into a stepping stone this summer. It turns out that your best player shouldn’t also be a mercenary," Pina wrote.
"The Heat, Timberwolves, Blazers, Mavericks, Pistons, Knicks, Raptors, Hawks, Magic, Lakers, Nuggets, Hornets, Bulls, Wizards, Warriors, Pacers, Jazz, Sixers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Bucks, and Clippers would all have varying degrees of interest," he added.
While Durant suffered some injuries that kept him out of three of four first-round games vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, he played in 78 of 82 regular-season games this year, the most since he suffered a major injury in the 2019 NBA Finals. Basketball-wise, Durant can still effortlessly give any team 25 points per game on efficient shooting splits.
That said, it's been years since he took over a game, and he hasn't necessarily made any of his teams better. If anything, his scandals with burner accounts, constant criticism of teammates and lack of accountability have repeatedly led to early exits from his organizations.
Durant was seemingly caught bashing his Rockets teammates with a burner social media account, and he hasn't returned to X since — a telling behavior for the most active NBA player on that social network.
That's not the first time he's starred in a similar accident; he was also caught criticizing his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates. So, given the lack of success he's experienced since he left the Bay Area, steep salary and history of power struggles, all of those aforementioned teams must tread carefully if they truly want to make a run at him.
