San Francisco Giants ' 30-year-old shortstop Willy Adames has gone 1-for-30 with 14 strikeouts and no walks in his last seven games.
Adames signed a seven-year, $182 million deal in December 2024, which was one of the biggest contracts in franchise history, but his offense has been streaky.
Since April 21, the veteran shortstop has been batting .194 with a .531 OPS with only one bomb across 23 games.
His overly aggressive approach at the plate has led to a high strikeout rate of 30.8% that ranks in the 10% percentile.

I mean, come on. It’s okay to be streaky but this is ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/npvnPKIY4p
Adames has been hitless as of April 29 in his last 24 at-bats. While he's expected to discover his rhythm, the pressure for him to produce has been evident.
While Adames is capable of busting out of his adversities, the primary struggles for 2026 have been sustaining a respectable batting average and working to break out of his slump.
But even despite a slow start in 2025, he still hit 30 bombs. Adames was moved to the leadoff spot on March 31 this season. He managed to hit a leadoff home run and recorded four hits in a 9-3 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Adames has been battling through mental challenges to find his stability in the Giants' lineup. He still projects to be a reliable anchor in the lineup, but his early-season struggles with generating consistent production have been carefully examined.
