New York Giants reporter Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News said on multiple occasions that Giants head coach and true head of football operations John Harbaugh could part ways with general manager Joe Schoen before the first day of May came to an end.
The fact that Schoen appeared on Thursday's edition of NFL Network's "The Insiders" program could lead one to believe he is going to be employed at least through the weekend. During that segment, Schoen indicated that he and Harbaugh have been getting along just fine over the past several months.
"The relationship’s been great," Schoen said while speaking about Harbaugh, per NJ Advance Media. "You know, aligned in the way that we’re building the team, and excited to get everybody in here next week at rookie minicamp and see how it’s going to look."
Schoen was "basically relegated to handling scouting" shortly after Harbaugh signed a contract that has him reporting directly to team co-owner John Mara. During what may go down as the last draft of Schoen's Giants tenure, Big Blue acquired Ohio State pass-rusher Arvell Reese and Miami tackle Francis Mauigoa with a pair of top-10 picks.
Those selections are polarizing among pockets of NFL executives.
"Going through free agency and the draft and the combine and the communicating on how to build a roster and a staff," Schoen added while speaking about Harbaugh, "he put together a really good coaching staff. So, felt like we had a lot of wins just from January until today."
The Giants failed to win much under Schoen's watch over the past few years, as they went 13-38 from the start of the 2023 season through the 2025 campaign. His comments suggest that he thinks he will be a significant part of the club's latest reset beyond this spring. However, questions about Schoen's future will continue to hover over the Giants as long as he remains in the final year of his contract.
