While we just entered the month of May, Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ has made an early statement about how he's solidified his status as one of the top left fielders in MLB.
Houston Astros' Yordan Alvarez also joins the list among qualified left fielders, and his high-floor offense has been flourishing this season. Other notable left fielders include Cody Bellinger, Jarren Duran and Jackson Chourio, etc.
But Happ holds himself in a unique prestige as one of the best two-way left fielders in the game.
As well, the numbers and rankings don't lie as he's ranked first in several categories, including home runs (8), slugging .517, and a .271 ISO. He also ranks second with a 147 wRC+ and 1.2 fWAR. Lastly, he ranks third with a 387 wOBA.

Happ is highly regarded not only for his reliable and top-tier defense but also for the high-impact offense that he delivers. His outstanding defense is supported by the four consecutive NL Gold Glove awards he has won in left field (2022-2025).
But Happ's defense in early 2026 continues to reinforce his defensive flair. He ranks in the 99th percentile in arm value with two, which indicates his solid accuracy with throwing.
Happ has also remained in good health and has avoided IL stints since 2022, adding to his reliability as a driving force in the lineup. Looking at his offense, he has compiled an OBP between .340 and .360 consistently since 2022. In 2024, he also set a career-high with 86 RBI. He is also a clutch run-producer, generating 20-25 home runs and 70+ RBI each season. This season, Happ has gone yard eight times, with an OPS of .890 and an OBP of .373, showcasing how he's on pace for another dynamite season. When it comes to his OBP, it is heavily sustained by his impressive walk rate (15.2%, 89th percentile in 2026).
Happ's three-year, $61 contract extension is coming into its final year, which means he will be giving everything he's got to put up big numbers for potentially another extension.
