The day has finally come for Miami Marlins No. 2-ranked pitching prospect Robby Snelling to make his MLB debut. With the DFA of Chris Paddock, Snelling was called up to fill his spot in the rotation. Snelling was acquired from the San Diego Padres in the Tanner Scott trade in 2024.
Snelling will make his debut against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Snelling's elite performance in Triple-A this season — with a 1.86 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 44 strikeouts across 29 innings — makes him deserving of the promotion.
As a game-changing prospect, the 22-year-old lefty offers the Marlins a polished arm. The primary weapons in his arsenal consist of a 94-plus mph fastball and an elite curveball that produces high strikeouts.
The promotion for Snelling is a dream come true, and he believes he can deliver the same ace performance in Triple-A at the big league level.

Based on a dominant performance paving the way to his debut, he is expected to deliver positive results. His most recent outing in the minors also gives him momentum.
He pitched five scoreless innings, giving up no hits, punching out nine with only one walk. Snelling also has an outstanding track record with the Marlins organization since 2024. He's generated a 1.46 ERA across 18 starts in Triple-A.
But the pressure will be on for the rookie in a new environment, playing against premier hitters. In terms of his durability, he is working up to pitch more than five innings consistently.
In Triple-A, he's averaged about 4.83 innings per start this season (29 innings over six starts). With his growth in the majors, he has the tools to pitch five to six innings at the MLB level.
The most he's pitched in a game is six innings this season, and with his full weaponry in his arsenal, he has the potential to dominate.
