Kirk Cousins, Fernando Mendoza need Raiders to make this move

The hype surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders is at a fever pitch, and there's no reason to be mad about that. The team has not one but two solid quarterbacks on their roster: veteran Kirk Cousins and rookie Fernando Mendoza.

But even the best signal-caller needs a good wide receiver to make the magic happen. That's where one available free agent comes into the picture for the Raiders.

The Raiders' roster is good going into the 2026-27 season, but they're coming back from a 3-14 record. They need a total makeover if they're going to make a real comeback in one season.

The Raiders need to move on free agent Deebo Samuel. The wide receiver is one of the strongest players left in free agency, and they should strongly consider making this move to help Cousins and Mendoza.

Let's call Samuel the Cousins of this team. Even though the Raiders cleaned up in the 2026 NFL Draft, they could use a stronger veteran presence in their wide receiver room, and that's where Samuel comes in.

Matt Bowen of ESPN calls Samuel one of the best remaining free agents in the league.

"Samuel caught 72 passes and scored five touchdowns in his one season with the Commanders, with 63.7% of his receiving totals coming after the catch," he states in the piece. "A power strider, he would benefit from a system that allows him to get loose on catch-and-run targets."

At 30 years old, Samuel has years of experience in the NFL, but he's also still young enough to be energetic and fresh on the field. Last season with the Commanders, Samuel clocked 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 10.1 yards per catch in 16 games, according to ESPN research and PFF.

Cousins would appreciate having another seasoned wide receiver who knows how to catch and run on the field, while Mendoza would respond well to having a receiver who already knows the ins and outs of the NFL. This is a move that could make the magic happen in Las Vegas.
