It's been a long season for the Boston Red Sox, and it's only the middle of May. That includes a very slow start for former All-Star Game MVP Jarren Duran.
Things seemed to get worse for Duran off the field, after he has now deleted his Instagram. This comes after he used the platform to criticize NBC Sports analyst Michael Holley.
Holley called out Roman Anthony, the up-and-coming star who has struggled with injuries and landed on the IL recently. Duran took exception, adding the clip to his story with the caption "They let people like this on nbc sports," alongside a laughing emoji and a clown emoji.

That led to some pretty quick backlash from fans. After all, many feel criticism of Anthony's injury history is very real. So, Duran deleted his Instagram.
For Duran, this is the latest in a long string of incidents that could be seen as immature. The most infamous of those was his homophobic slur directed at a fan back in 2024.
However, there has been a string of issues this season too. Duran flashed a middle finger at a fan. Then, following the firing of manager Alex Cora, he refused to answer questions from reporters, waving them away. That forced Anthony, despite being just 21 years old, to answer those difficult questions.
The Boston Red Sox have been sliding from the start of the season this year. A young roster, the team has been looking for veteran leaders, particularly in the wake of Alex Bregman's departure. They haven't found that in Jarren Duran.
Instead, Duran has continued to show how much he's struggled with maturity. He hasn't grown into that leadership role. On top of that, he's also struggled on the field.
He currently has a .194 batting average, .253 OBP, and a .324 slugging percentage. That's a .577 OPS, which is the worst of his career. He also only has 10 extra-base hits on the season.
This comes when the Red Sox have a logjam in the outfield. That's to say, they have five starting quality outfielders. Along with Duran and Anthony, there are Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida. That's kept the group from having defined roles and, in the case of Yoshida, kept him from getting consistent playing time.
The consensus is, generally speaking, that Boston needs to trade at least one of them. Certainly, the Red Sox need help at other positions too, as the offense has struggled all season long. So, with all of that in mind, Duran seems like the most viable trade candidate.
