The Detroit Lions aren't messing around going into the 2026 NFL season. Dan Campbell and company are making a statement with their 2026 NFL Draft class, and that message is that their window hasn't closed. It's just now opening.
From offensive tackle Blake Miller out of Clemson to Michigan EDGE Derrick Moore, the Lions simply plugged in the best available players in the draft where they were needed most.
It's not hyperbole to say this may be the Lions' best roster in years.
On Monday, NFL.com's Eric Edholm named his picks for the most complete NFL rosters going into the 2026-27 season. He has the Lions at No. 6, and they're also the highest NFC North team on the tally.
"Jared Goff is an upper-echelon QB who has averaged more than 4,500 pass yards and 30 TDs over the past four seasons," Edholm wrote. "He has a battery of game-changing playmakers at his disposal. The Lions’ offensive identity could change slightly without battering-ram RB David Montgomery, but Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the league's most electric playmakers."
Edholm does say that the Lions defense is the only question mark, but that may not be the case. The Lions took their defense to the next level with the NFL Draft, especially getting long-needed edge-rusher help in Moore. So, why the team's defense isn't as strong as their offense, as Edholm notes, their defense still stands strong.
There's no argument against the Lions having one of the best rosters going into the 2026-27 season. But the question is whether the team's coaching staff can do what needs to be done and call the right plays to help these talented players execute on the field. With new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing in the fold, it remains a bit of a mystery how this team will unfold in the coming season, but hopes are, and should be, high.
