Luka Doncic shares update on summer plans after Lakers' playoff exit

The Los Angeles Lakers are now officially in the offseason after getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.

It was a heartbreaking end for LeBron James and company. But, the Lakers were never expected to win this series, largely because star Luka Doncic missed the full 2026 playoff run following a Grade 2 left hamstring strain he suffered in early April.

At the time, Doncic was given an eight-week recovery timeline, and that just took him out of the playoffs, unfortunately the time that the Lakers needed him most.

Following the Lakers' loss, Doncic took to social media to share personal news.

Doncic shared on his Instagram stories that he won't play basketball for the Slovenian national team this summer. He's going to spend time with his daughters and family amid a custody battle that he's having with his former fiancee, Anamaria Goltes.

"I love my daughters more than anything, and they will always come first in my life," Doncic stated. "As I continue working toward joint custody of my daughters, I have been forced to make a difficult decision between traveling and playing for the Slovenian national team and being with my daughters this summer."

Doncic added that the situation with his daughters has been difficult, and he'll use the summer to the best of his advantage.

"Unfortunately, it has been made extremely difficult for me to see them over the past eight months," he stated.

"I have given everything to representing Slovenia and I am disappointed that I will not be able to play for my country this summer," Doncic added. "But right now, my daughters and my responsibilities as a father are my priority."

Doncic absolutely deserves this time with his daughters over the summer. As for his NBA career, his injury came at the worst time possible, but the Lakers are strong and can regroup for next season with the expectation that Doncic will stay healthy this time around.
