Browns insider makes major statement on Myles Garrett's future

Dating back to last offseason, Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett has been tangled up in countless trade rumors.

The former No. 1 pick requested a trade before signing a then-record-breaking deal to become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, a contract that — ironically — included a no-trade clause.

However, that wasn't the end of it. The Browns reworked his deal this offseason to push back the payment dates of his bonuses, thus making his contract much more tradable and re-igniting speculation.

That's why, since some still believe the Browns could move their Defensive Player of the Year, team insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and cleveland.com wanted to set the record straight, letting the world know that, barring a shocking turn of events, that's just not going to happen.

The Browns don't want to trade Myles Garrett

“I would say pretty close to 100 percent (he won't be traded). You can never say never, but Andrew Berry and Jimmy Haslam have been adamant about not trading Myles Garrett, that they do feel like they’re poised to take off once they figure out the quarterback situation,” Cabot said on 92.3 The Fan.

Cabot added that the Browns believe they can take a leap from last year's unimpressive season. If that's the case, then trading Garrett won't even cross their minds:

“If this team grows up a little bit this year and then a little bit more next year, they should be able to win some significant games next year if they have a quarterback. This year, maybe they can flirt with 8, 9, or remain in the conversation for a wild-card spot and then take off next year. Myles is still going to be Myles Garrett next year. They don’t want someone else to benefit from that. I would say still pretty close to 100 percent,” she added.

Of course, that also means they could change their stance on their superstar headhunter if they don't live up to this season's expectations.

The Browns will face most of their games on the road before the trade deadline, so they might feel differently about their postseason chances after a couple of months.

That said, unless they get an absolutely massive return, it's hard to believe they will even pick up the phone to discuss trading their future Hall of Famer.
