The Cleveland Browns have four quarterbacks heading into the 2026-27 season, but the one who seems to get most of the attention is Shedeur Sanders.
The Browns drafted Sanders in the fifth round as the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft despite being expected to get drafted much earlier, even as early as the first round.
Now, the Brown have Sanders, along with veteran Deshaun Watson, who's healthy again after his Achilles injury, Dillon Gabriel and rookie Taylen Green in their quarterback room. But, their quarterback situation is still in limbo, and it won't be a surprise if they draft a young signal-caller in the 2027 NFL Draft.
In a May 18 feature for CBS Sports, Mike Renner suggests the Browns will draft quarterback Drake Lindsey out of Minnesota.
"Lindsey is an up-and-comer more people need to know about because of his certified rocket launcher for a right arm," he states in the piece. "He's right there with South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers for the strongest arm in college football. Unlike Sellers, Lindsey has shown the ability to throw with multiple speeds and layer passes beautifully over the middle."
He adds: "He'll need to improve his accuracy and pocket presence this year, but I like his chances of doing just that in Year 2 as a starter."
Of course, we'll have to see how Lindsey's year shakes out, and these are very early NFL mock draft projections. But, it makes sense that if Sanders doesn't cut it this season, the Browns will use their likely high draft selection to secure a quarterback of the future.
