Once again, Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Rashee Rice is making the rounds for all the wrong reasons.
The young star out of SMU violated his probation agreement by testing positive for THC (marijuana), and he'll now have to serve 30 days in jail. Not only will he miss the first stage of the team's offseason workouts, but he'll also have to recover from a minor knee procedure while in jail.
As such, the Chiefs have to make some decisions about his future and should also consider bringing in someone else. If that's the case, they can only focus on Deebo Samuel.
Of all the big-name NFL playmakers still up for grabs, Samuel is the only one who won't be a distraction. Tyreek Hill is already familiar with the offense and the organization, but he's also had his fair share of drama and scandals off the field. That also applies to Stefon Diggs.
Samuel is coming off a strong season for the struggling Washington Commanders. Despite not having Jayden Daniels for most of the campaign, he still amassed 72 receptions on 99 targets for 727 yards and five touchdowns.
Rice has already proved that he cannot be trusted to stay out of trouble. He's been tangled up in way too many run-ins with the law, and he's also dealt with a major injury. The Chiefs can't afford to give him a long-term contract extension. This was a contract year, and not even that was enough for him to make better decisions.
Samuel still has something left in the tank, and this team must give Patrick Mahomes another weapon. As for Rice, they may have to reconsider keeping him around after this, as talented as he is.
