Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer makes $3.8M sale to better prepare for critical 2026 season

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is aiming to shorten his commute to work.

Neal Franklin of The Dallas Morning News reported for a story published Friday that the coach listed his McKinney, Texas, house at $3.8M to move closer to the team's headquarters in Frisco. It's typically a 20-30 minute drive.

Brian Schottenheimer's listing agent expands on decision to sell home

"It really is just time being closer to work, and every minute counts, when you're at that level, for him," Schottenheimer's listing agent Carrie Himel said, per Franklin.

And now Schottenheimer can find a place that's closer to work. The home, which was listed on April 17, already has a buyer.

Perhaps it was a friend of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who purchased the house. Jones certainly wouldn't mind if the coach spent more time at the facility.

The Cowboys went 7-9-1 and missed the playoffs in their first season under Schottenheimer but may rebound in 2026 after retooling their defense. The unit ranked last in the league in points allowed last season (30.1 per game). Dallas took Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs with pick No. 11 in the 2026 NFL Draft and acquired one-time Pro Bowl defensive end Rashan Gary in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.

Dallas' offense — which ranked fifth in the league in points scored (27 PPG) in 2025 — should keep humming in 2026. Quarterback Dak Prescott (4,552 yards passing in 2025, No. 3 in the NFL) remains in his prime. Just as importantly for Dallas, wide receiver George Pickens (1,429 yards receiving, No. 3 in NFL) remains on the roster. The 2025 second-team All-Pro signed his franchise tag (a one-year, $27.3M contract) on April 29.

As of Sunday, FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Cowboys (+200) the second-best odds to win the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles (+140). Philadelphia, of course, repeated as the division champions last season.

The high expectations put much more pressure on Schottenheimer, who has a chance to prove he's the right man for the job if he leads Dallas back to the postseason for the first time since the 2023 season. No wonder he wants to live closer to team headquarters. He's pressed for time, and a long morning commute wastes it.
