Golden Knights make franchise history with comeback win over Avalanche

Demonstrating a "never say die" attitude, the Vegas Golden Knights stormed back to win Game 3 of the NHL's Western Conference Final. The win also handed the Golden Knights a commanding 3-0 series lead over the President's Trophy winning Colorado Avalanche.

Vegas' comeback wasn't just any normal comeback, either. They made up for a 3-0 deficit following the first period to win the game 5-3, making franchise history in the process.

Golden Knights made franchise history with comeback win

The Golden Knights won a playoff game after trailing by three or more goals for the first time in the nine-year history of the franchise. Vegas was 0-19 when trailing by three goals in their prior postseason games.

Vegas scored three in the second and then two in the third

To make the comeback happen, captain Mark Stone, who missed five straight games heading into the night, scored 0:19 into the second period on the power play. William Karlsson netted another at 4:05, and Keegan Kolesar tied the game before the third period even got underway.

Tomas Hertl picked up the game-winner 8:21 into the third period, and Brett Howden locked up the game with an empty net tally in the closing minute.

Goaltender Carter Hart picked up his game from the end of the first period on, eventually stopping 32 out of the 35 shots he faced.

Golden Knights are on the verge of the franchise's third Stanley Cup Final

Entering the league ahead of the 2017-18 season, the Golden Knights have steadily become one of the NHL's best teams throughout the new decade, even reaching the Stanley Cup Final in their debut year of existence, and now this current group is one more win away from the organization's third trip to the NHL's title round and then a shot at claiming a second championship.

With confetti ready to go, Game 4 will take place on Tuesday from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the opening puck drop set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
