Sometimes a pitcher takes the mound for his team, and the other team feels it has a minimal chance of winning.
That exact situation has occurred for each team facing Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski over his past several outings.
Misiorowski entered Monday with zero runs allowed and 37 strikeouts over his previous four outings. In that same stretch, Misiorowski had allowed just seven hits, good for an average of just 1.75 hits allowed per game.
Misiorowski's dominance continued on Monday against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals. Misiorowski tied the longest outing of his season, going seven dominant innings while allowing just two hits, one run and tying his career high in strikeouts with 12.
The seven dominant innings for Misiorowski lowered his season ERA to 1.83, tied for fourth best in MLB.

After a slow start to the season, Milwaukee has played outstanding baseball in the month of May. Monday's win improved the Brewers to 15-6 this month, one of the best in the league.
Along with a scorching hot offense, Misiorowski has dominated the pitching staff. He's allowed just one run in May, making it easy for the Milwaukee offense to only need limited runs on offense to provide run support.
Heading into the summer months of the season, it would appear the National League Cy Young Award race is up for grabs. Four of the five ERA leaders hail from the NL.
Continued excellence from those pitchers will make for a tough voting process when the season wraps up, a much different scenario than the previous two seasons.
