The New York Knicks absolutely dominated the Cleveland Cavaliers during a sweep of the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 4 on Monday, 130-93, and the Big Apple is truly showing the naysayers that they're here to stay.
Shaquille O'Neal is one of the NBA voices who doubted the Knicks. Now, he's eating his words and offering an apology to the Knicks and New York for how he doubted this team's abilities.
"They are so good, I owe the whole state and all five boroughs of New York an apology," he said during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday.
He added: "It reminds me of that Detroit team that beat us ... They just got a bunch of guys that are just together."
It's an exciting time to be a Knicks fan. The team is in the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years. They've also won their last 11 playoff games by double-digit margins and are simply on fire.
During Monday's game, Karl-Anthony Towns notched 19 points and 14 rebounds, OG Anunoby clocked 17 points, Landry Shamet had 16 off the bench and Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson had 15 each.
Brunson was also crowned the Eastern Conference Finals MVP. Clyde Frazier and Patrick Ewing presented the Eastern Conference Finals MVP trophy to Brunson after the game.
The Knicks will play the Oklahoma City Thunder or San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, depending on how the rest of the Western Conference Finals shake out. The first game of the series is scheduled for June 3.
