With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror and training camp almost underway, Joey Bosa remains unsigned.
Injury concerns will always linger with the former Los Angeles Chargers star, but he's been mostly healthy for the past couple of years. However, since the Buffalo Bills haven't brought him back yet, it seems highly unlikely that he will be back with Joe Brady's team next season.
Considering that, Chris Roling of USA Today's Bengals Wire claimed that, given Bosa's well-documented friendship with Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals could be in play for his services.
“Burrow’s friend is a super obvious connection to make,” wrote Roling. “Bosa will turn 31 in July, but he just enjoyed his first double-digit-game-started attendance sheet since 2021 last year in Buffalo. He only had five sacks, but his rotational upside is hard to deny. The Bengals have Boye Mafe and a handful of prospects they want to develop on the fly next year, but there’s really no such thing as too many good pass rushers on a roster.”
The Bengals have gone to great lengths to bolster their defense ahead of what might be Zac Taylor's last year in charge of the team. As such, doubling down on their pass-rushing unit by landing Bosa makes perfect sense.
Also, they wouldn't have to rely on him being fully healthy for an entire season, and having him rotate in obvious passing situations would help him stay fresh and unharmed when it matters most.
He's coming off leading the league with five forced fumbles last season. While Spotrac projects his market value at $13.7 million a year, perhaps he'll agree to take a team-friendly discount to join forces with Burrow.
