The New York Knicks will enter June as the reigning kings of New York City after they booked the franchise's first trip to the NBA Finals since 1999.
While speaking with reporters on Thursday, New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made it known that he and his teammates want to follow in the Knicks' footsteps.
"Seeing the people, the way they get behind their team, I know Jet fans are frothing out the mouth to cheer like that, and we want to give it to them," Wilson said about how people in the region have reacted to the Knicks' playoff run, per Rich Cimini of ESPN. "I personally want to give it to them the most. Yeah, man, it's cool to see, and I'm glad I'm up here for it. I'm rooting for the Knicks like hell. That gives us a taste of what it might look like when we figure this thing out, which we're excited for the opportunity."
The Jets will begin the 2026 season holding sole possession of the longest active postseason drought among the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS at 15 years. Some feel that Gang Green is unofficially planning to "tank" the 2026 season because the club is "all-in on landing" a future franchise quarterback in the 2027 draft.
"Ya gotta believe," Wilson said about the expectations skeptics have for the Jets. "Ya gotta believe before anything happens, and the belief is high."
The Knicks' talent and depth were both on display as the club notched 11 consecutive victories to secure a spot in the Finals. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has noticed something else about the reigning Eastern Conference champions.
"I'll tell you what, that is a gritty, gritty team," Glenn said about the Finals-bound Knicks. "Man, I'm pulling for those guys, I really am, because they play their a-- off, you know, and it's fun to watch."
Diehard Jets fans will spend portions of the summer hoping their favorite team will be fun to watch for more than a handful of games this season.
