The San Antonio Spurs knocked the Oklahoma City Thunder out of the NBA playoffs over the weekend, and now, it's the Spurs against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
The excitement is at a fever pitch for this matchup. Both teams have high-profile talent, including Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and Knicks standout Jalen Brunson, both of whom won the MVP awards from their respective conference finals.
Seeing Wembanyama and Brunson go up against each other is going to be nothing short of thrilling. Now, ahead of Game 1, a classic Wembanyama quote is resurfacing and going viral.
Ahead of the finals, the NBA has shared a classic Wembanyama quote, and it's something he said the moment he got drafted to the Spurs back in 2023. The Spurs famously selected Wembanyama with the team's No. 1 overall pick that year, and it's proved a franchise-changing move. The NBA's post has been viewed more than 160,000 times in less than three hours, and it's growing.
At the draft in 2023, he said, "The universe" told him that he was going to be a member of the Spurs.

Did it tell him he'd be leading San Antonio to the NBA Finals three years later?
“Of course.” pic.twitter.com/vKGKYOmRpp
When asked now if the universe told him anything about making it to the NBA Finals, he said yes, but with a caveat.
"Of course, but (it) doesn't mean you don't gotta go get (it)," Wembanyama said, adding that "at the end of the day, you gotta keep doing it (and) make it happen."
So, it's a combination of destiny and hard work. That combo is certainly working for Wembanyama as he leads the Spurs into the NBA Finals.
