The Chicago Bears haven't necessarily addressed all of their roster needs this offseason.
While they did a solid job of rebuilding their secondary by drafting Dillon Thieneman and signing Coby Bryant, their front seven still leaves plenty to be desired. That's especially the case in the pass-rushing department, with Montez Sweat as the only productive headhunter in town.
With that in mind, Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano argued that Jadeveon Clowney would be a perfect fit for Ben Johnson's team.
"Chicago desperately needs another productive edge rusher opposite Montez Sweat. Clowney probably can’t fill the No. 2 role at this stage of his career, but the 33-year-old can still set the edge better than most players at his position. He has added a few years onto his career because he’s a quality player against the run," Manzano wrote.
The Bears need someone to put pressure on the quarterback. They ranked 31st in pass-rush win percentage last season (29 percent), according to ESPN, and adding a proven headhunter would certainly help their case.
Granted, Clowney is no longer in his prime, and he never truly lived up to the hype that surrounded him at South Carolina. That said, he still had 8.5 sacks for the Dallas Cowboys last season, which would be second in Chicago.
Only Sweat (10.0) and Gervon Dexter Sr. (6.0) had more than five sacks for Dennis Allen's defense in 2025, and that should've been a point of emphasis for general manager Ryan Poles.
The Bears had all the resources to address their defensive needs this offseason, and ignoring the pass rush could come back to haunt them. They have an obvious solution right in front of them, even if he won't be a long-term answer to their prayers.
