The Dallas Cowboys are coming up on what Jerry Jones hopes is a breakout season for the franchise, after missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
Going into the offseason, the team had some difficult decisions to make, including letting players go into free agency. Now, one of the players Dallas let go is being named one of the best available free agents in the league.
That player is edge-rusher Jadeveon Clowney. Considering how valuable the edge-rusher position has become in the NFL, it's a bit of a surprise that Clowney hasn't found a place in the league yet, but regardless, he's considered one of the strongest veterans still out there.
On Sunday, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report released his tally of the best remaining free agents in the NFL. He's been linked to teams, but there's been no action yet.
"By now, teams know what to expect out of Jadeveon Clowney. He'll rack up close to 10 sacks and strengthen the run defense," Moton states in the piece, adding that during the 2025 season, Clowney led the team's pass rush, recording 8.5 sacks.
"Because of Clowney's ability to disrupt run plays in the backfield, he's more than a designated pass-rusher," he adds in the piece. "The 33-year-old has recorded at least nine tackles for loss in three consecutive seasons. Over the last four years, Clowney has bounced around the league, playing for four different teams, though he can be one of the final pieces to a championship-level defense."
Clowney has a lot to offer after his 12 seasons in the NFL, and he's likely to require a high price tag, which is perhaps why he still doesn't have a gig. But once the season gets rolling and edge-rushers go down, chances are teams will contact him when they need edge-rusher support from a seasoned player.
