Victor Wembanyama goes viral for heartwarming moment with nuns during Knicks-Spurs Finals

The San Antonio Spurs couldn't get past the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, and the game ended with a 105-95 final score. Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and Knicks standout Jalen Brunson were both on fire during the game, but Brunson and the Knicks were able to edge out a win.

Ahead of the game, the Spurs nuns took the spotlight. These nuns have been a presence amid San Antonio's road to the NBA Finals, and before Game 1, they shared a special moment with Wembanyama.

The NBA's official social media account shared a video of Wembanyama with the group of nuns, and they appeared to be praying for him at Frost Bank Center. In the clip, Wembanyama is seen bowing down his head and bending over to get near the nuns as they prayed. The post has more than 600,000 views and counting and has gone viral.

Nuns have been supporting Victor Wembanyama and Spurs all season

So, who are these nuns? They're the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco, and they've been cheering for the Spurs for decades. Their connection started in the 1990s.

The sisters especially like Wembanyama, and Sister Margaret Natal told the San Antonio Express-News in May that he's one of their favorite players. Natal told the publication that the nuns regularly pray for the Spurs.

"We keep them in prayer, and it's not, you know, for them to win," Natal told the outlet. "It's about good sportsmanship, that they remember who they are. That they are role models. We pray that they play to the best of their ability. We pray that they understand their responsibility."

The Spurs will need all the prayers they can get to pull off a victory over the Knicks in the NBA Finals. Game 2 is set for Friday in San Antonio.
