Report: Warriors' pursuit of LeBron James 'has some legs'

The Golden State Warriors have been star-hunting for the past couple of years.

They swung and missed in their pursuit of Kevin Durant, but landed Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis. Now, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is looking to pull off something that seemed impossible a decade ago.

According to ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel, the Warriors are planning to pursue LeBron James in free agency.

James will be an unrestricted free agent, and he might no longer be a priority for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Warriors will aggressively pursue LeBron James

“League sources telling us at ClutchPoints that the Warriors are very much open to pursuing LeBron James and they plan to do so this offseason in free agency,” said Siegel.

The Warriors had already been in the mix to trade for James, but to no avail. That said, he already knows what it's like to play with his nemesis Stephen Curry, who will also reportedly reach out to him personally to recruit him to the Bay Area:

“It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this,” added Siegel. “That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency.”

Joining the same team that beat him three times in the NBA Finals would've probably been a legacy-killer years ago.

That said, after everything he's accomplished, it would be nice to watch him win another championship while also helping his deadliest competitor get more silverware.

He's close friends with Warriors star Draymond Green, and they're both Rich Paul and Klutch Sports clients, so there's an obvious connection there.

The Warriors might not be able to make him the most lucrative offer, but they can give the fans what they've wanted for years, not to mention make one final championship run.
