Tyler Reddick led laps early and won Stage 1 in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway but won't get a chance to fight for the victory after a Lap 83 crash took him out of the race.
The Cup Series points leader was one of several drivers involved in a restart crash that bottlenecked the field.
"I'm alright," Reddick told Prime Video. "Feel like we had really good speed. Just all around bummer. Race I feel like we could've won."
Reddick's five victories lead the Cup Series this season, and a sixth at MIS on Sunday was very possible, given that he won at the two-mile track in 2024. His 35th-place finish on Sunday will be his first result worse than 15th this season.
More than just missing out on a chance to win the race, however, Reddick will also lose ground to Denny Hamlin in the Cup Series standings. Reddick led Hamlin by 97 points entering Sunday, but will now assuredly lose ground to his car owner.
Reddick did earn seven more stage points than Hamlin on Sunday, which could mitigate the damage slightly depending on where Hamlin finishes. The latter finished eighth in Stage 2.
