The San Antonio Spurs are finally on the board, stealing Game 3 on the road in front of a packed Madison Square Garden.
Mitch Johnson's team set the tone early. They were physical, rotated early and often and made their presence felt on the defensive end of the floor.
Notably, they also got away with a bit too much contact at times. That was especially the case when Victor Wembanyama shoved Jalen Brunson to the floor.
The referees didn't call a foul, and while Brunson got up and immediately confronted Wemby, he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. When asked about that play and whether the physicality bothered him, he kept it simple.
“No, to answer your second question, and whatever you saw is what you saw,” Brunson said (h/t SNY Knicks).
The New York Knicks' superstar wouldn't make up any excuses for the loss. However, he did share a more insightful answer about the loss after things cooled off.
“The most important thing is that we were going to learn regardless, because we knew there were things that we were going to have to improve on going into the next game,” Brunson said.
The Knicks wasted a golden opportunity to get the Spurs against the ropes and close out the deal in Game 4. Now, the series will return to San Antonio for at least one more game.
It will be interesting to see whether the referees continue to allow so much contact in Game 4 in a series that has turned way more physical than anticipated.
