With OTAs and minicamp in the record books, it's somewhat surprising to see that Joey Bosa is still unsigned.
The veteran pass-rusher is coming off leading the league with five forced fumbles last season.
And with the Buffalo Bills not bringing him back and his brother, Nick, back to full strength, it looked like the perfect opportunity for them to team up with the San Francisco 49ers.
However, 49ers insider Matt Maiocco doesn't see that happening. Otherwise, it would've already happened.
“I still don’t think [the 49ers signing Bosa] is going to happen anytime soon,” Maiocco said on his YouTube channel. “In fact, I really don’t think it’s going to happen, period.”
Maiocco addressed Nick's comments about Joey being more focused on getting better at golf than signing with another team.
And, given his history of injuries and big career earnings, it wouldn't be shocking to see him quietly ride into the sunset.
“Just the way Nick talked about Joey and how he’s more interested in concentrating on his golf game at this point than he is on playing football, it kind of leads me to believe that an NFL veteran who has made so much money playing this sport, if in late May or early June, his mind is more on golf than football, that leads me to believe that there’s a really good chance that he ends up retiring.”
Maiocco argued that Bosa could still come back for another season if a team made him a huge offer. That said, it seems like that would've happened already, and teams have less money to spend at this point in the offseason.
Certainly, the 49ers could've used another proven veteran in the trenches, especially with the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks looking like the teams to beat.
But other than fan speculation and his ties to his brother, Nick, it seems like the 49ers were never truly interested in his services — at least publicly.
