Dallas Wings arrive with blowout win over Las Vegas Aces

It's time to believe.

On Monday, the Dallas Wings recorded a massive statement win, blowing out the defending champion Las Vegas Aces (10-4), 96-66, to improve to 9-5 on the season.

Rookie No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while veteran Arike Ogunbowale led all players with 22 points while making 5-of-11 three-point attempts.

ESPN WNBA insider Alexa Philippou shared that the 30-point margin of victory was the largest at home by Dallas since the franchise relocated from Tulsa in 2016.

Stunning Dallas Wings blowout win over Las Vegas Aces shows how far franchise has come

From 2024-25, the Wings were the WNBA's worst team, going 19-65. But following Monday's emphatic victory, they're already just one win shy of matching their 2025 total.

It's been a remarkable turnaround under first-year coach Jose Fernandez, who, along with Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, should be the frontrunners for WNBA Coach of the Year. He's done an excellent job gelling a roster of young stars, including Fudd and Paige Bueckers, with veterans such as Ogunbowale and 2026 free-agent additions Jessica Shepard in quick order

Entering Monday, the Wings ranked sixth out of 15 teams in both offensive and defensive rating, one year after finishing 10th and 11th, respectively, among 13 franchises.

Dallas, which has just one winning season (2023) since arriving in town, finally is capable of competing with the game's elite. It dominated Las Vegas from the start on Monday, building a 10-point first-quarter lead and doubling up the Aces, 56-28, with three minutes remaining in the first half.

Most impressive, arguably, is the win came without a huge performance from Bueckers, who finished with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Shepard, who ranks second in the league in win shares, per Her Hoop Stats, was phenomenal, ending an assist shy of a triple-double with 15 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.

With Fudd and Bueckers, Dallas has as bright a future as any team in the league. But Monday showed it might not have to wait to make a mark. After crushing the Aces, the Wings are ready to fly.
