It was learned ahead of this past weekend that the NFL had closed its personal conduct policy investigation into Stefon Diggs regarding an alleged incident involving the free-agent wide receiver said to have occurred on Dec. 2, 2025.
Numerous stories have linked Diggs, who is from the state of Maryland and played collegiately at the University of Maryland, with a Washington Commanders team that could use some help at the position. During a Monday appearance on Fox 5 DC, Diggs discussed his uncertain future.
"I never realized how many fans it was back home until I was a free agent and people were like, 'Are you going to come back home?' Especially when they see me back," Diggs said, as shared by Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I’m like this. I’ve been living here for my whole life. I’ve been living here for 10 years. They was just like this, 'Oh, we never see you.' I was like, 'Man, y’all wasn’t looking.'"
Most recently, Diggs helped the 2025 New England Patriots reach the Super Bowl in what became his only campaign with the organization. While he led the Patriots last season with 85 receptions, 102 targets and 1,013 receiving yards, New England head coach Mike Vrabel hinted as recently as last week that the club won't be bringing Diggs back after it acquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in June.
Meanwhile, multiple reports have indicated that the Commanders are waiting for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to become available. However, that situation could drag on into the summer. As for Diggs, the 32-year-old is currently available and could be signed at any time.
"It’s a lot of hopes," Diggs continued during the segment. "We’re kind of figuring it out, working through some things. I did have a small piece of me, like, 'D---, it would be great to come home and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college, and just kind of doing something for the city.' Hopefully, things do work out. We’ll see how it goes."
The Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons are also among teams that may be interested in signing Diggs before training-camp practices get underway in late July. It remains to be seen if he'll be a Washington player at that time.
