Cowboys have a Dak Prescott problem they need to address

The Dallas Cowboys have an MVP-worthy quarterback in Dak Prescott. Last season, he passed for 4,552 yards, which put him third in the NFL, according to NFL research, recording 30 passing touchdowns and rushing for two more.

The Cowboys are lucky to have Prescott, but his presence hasn't taken them far enough because he needs protection. Sure, he has solid targets around him in wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, as well as running back Javonte Williams. But he needs to have time to get the ball to those players, and he needs to stay healthy.

So, the Cowboys have a Prescott issue they need to address. The sooner they do it, the better for their 2026 season.

Cowboys need to get quarterback Dak Prescott protection

On Tuesday, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report noted that the team needs to not only protect Prescott's blindside this season, but they also have to get him a solid backup quarterback.

"Obviously, Dak Prescott's health is of the utmost importance considering his history," he says in the piece. "Thus, the team's backup option could be vital. Currently, Sam Howell and Joe Milton III are vying to earn that designation."

So, if Prescott goes down, there isn't much hope for this franchise without a reliable, starter-ready quarterback. Maybe Milton and Howell will fit the bill. Maybe not.

As for protecting Prescott, left tackle is where the Cowboys have to step it up. Sobleski notes that Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas are both gunning for the position, but there are questions surrounding both players.

Many franchises would love to have a quarterback like Prescott in the fold. If the Cowboys can take care of these issues before September, we may finally see Prescott and Dallas rise.
