Wednesday produced a stunning result in the 2026 World Cup when Congo DR was able to play Portugal to a 1-1 draw, completely limiting and frustrating international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo finished the game with only 25 touches, attempted only three shots, missed the net on all of them and had no real positive impact on his side.
That's not to say his presence didn't have some sort of impact.
It was just mostly a negative impact, and Fox analyst Thierry Henry broke it down following the match in a simple, yet crushing analysis of Ronaldo's play.
Henry put it simply when he said of Ronaldo: "The team needs to score. Not you."
That was part of an analysis where he highlighted how Ronaldo was hunting goals for himself and in the process taking away opportunities for his teammates.
“Because he wants to score, he goes into the path of Bruno Fernandes. If he goes into the six-yard box, you’ve been in that situation, Alexi, you would have had to follow him. Then it would have been a tap-in for Bruno Fernandes. But because he wants to score, he goes in the path of the back pass. You see both players and it’s easier for you to defend. And that’s my thing, the team needs to score, not you,”

Most of the biggest stars at the World Cup have kicked off the tournament with big-time performances , including Lionel Messi with a hat trick in his opening game on Tuesday night.
That performance set the stage for what many were expecting to be a classic response from Ronaldo as he tried to put his own stamp on the tournament.
It never arrived.
And his desire to deliver that response seemed to be more of a detriment than anything else.
Ronaldo and Portugal will get a chance to respond next Tuesday when group play continues against Uzbekistan.
