Cardinals' Carson Beck may be putting Jacoby Brissett on notice amid Brendan Sorsby rumors

As of the morning of June 18, Arizona Cardinals veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett hadn't yet received the adjusted contract and pay raise he has wanted since before he decided to stay away from the club throughout voluntary springtime workouts.

Meanwhile, there seems to be at least a chance that rookie and 2026 third-round draft pick Carson Beck could be allowed to compete for the starting job with Brissett and fellow backup Gardner Minshew II later this summer. For a piece published on Wednesday, ESPN's Josh Weinfuss detailed the work Beck is putting in amid the team's uncertain quarterback situation.

Carson Beck is "going beyond what Arizona is asking of its rookies" ahead of training camp

"Beck said he has been putting in 13-hour days at the Cardinals' facility, going beyond what Arizona is asking of its rookies," Weinfuss wrote. "After the rookies are done with their meetings, Beck spends time with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and quarterbacks coach Matt Schaub. Beck also has access to first-year head coach Mike LaFleur if questions arise."

Weinfuss previously revealed that Brissett "was told by the Cardinals after free agency that he was their starting quarterback." However, it's unclear if the two sides are close to coming to an agreement regarding Brissett's contract situation. Earlier in June, LaFleur declined to confirm that Brissett is the team's first-choice quarterback.

"Beck said he has spent his almost six weeks with the Cardinals either at home or at the facility learning the playbook and soaking in everything he can," Weinfuss added.

Will Carson Beck soon be sharing the Cardinals quarterback room with Brendan Sorsby?

Earlier this week, ESPN's Ben Solak wrote that "the Cardinals are the most obvious choice" to grab former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby during the upcoming supplemental draft. Taking Sorsby in the supplemental draft would cost the Cardinals their corresponding pick in next year’s draft, and those running the franchise will have to make their final decision about the controversial prospect before the supplemental draft takes place on or before July 16.

Even if the Cardinals take Sorsby, he could sit through the entire 2026 season. Beck, meanwhile, could ultimately get the nod for Arizona's Week 1 game at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 13.
