Vikings get bold Brendan Sorsby warning from a familiar face

The Minnesota Vikings still have a quarterback problem to solve.

Kyler Murray might be a short-term solution, but he's also dealt with injuries and hasn't been the most efficient quarterback in recent years.

As such, they might join the pool of teams throwing their hats in the Brendan Sorsby sweepstakes once he enters the supplemental NFL Draft.

While that might make sense to a degree, former Vikings linebacker Ben Leber thinks it might not be the greatest idea, as Sorsby has struggled when it mattered the most.

Ben Leber warns Vikings about Brendan Sorsby

“The problem that I have, and this is a stolen take really from a lot of other people, is that when you watch him, the stats do match up that quarterbacks are paid and their legacies are created in the biggest games,” Leber said in a video for his YouTube channel. “In the NFL, that’s from November on and into the playoffs.”

Leber pointed to Sorsby's major struggles late in the season, and he's worried about how that might translate into the pros:

“If you take college football, it’s really November. What have you done? What do you do in the biggest conference games that you play? And he has been terrible for three years. In three seasons, his last season at Indiana and his two seasons at Cincinnati, he’s 1-11 in November. 1-11. In the last two years, he hasn’t won a game at Cincinnati in November,” added Leber.

Of course, that's not the only issue with Sorsby. He placed over 9,000 bets, including on his own team, during his collegiate career.

The Vikings don't seem too high on J.J. McCarthy, but he's still young and on a rookie contract, and adding Sorsby to the mix would probably be giving up on a former first-round pick before his rookie deal runs out.

The whole Sorsby situation is a slippery slope, regardless of whether he has the clutch gene or not, and it'll be interesting to see where he lands.
