Struggling NBA team rejected Warriors' blockbuster draft-day trade bid

The Golden State Warriors will likely be one of the most active teams in the NBA offseason.

General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. wants to give Stephen Curry one last chance to win his fifth NBA championship, and he'll need another sidekick to do so. Considering that, they might try to work the draft board, moving down some spots to acquire more assets to flip for a star.

According to ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel, they already tried to do that with the Charlotte Hornets, but to no avail.

Hornets turn down Warriors' big trade proposal

“A couple of weeks ago, the Warriors made a call to the Charlotte Hornets to inquire about whether there was a deal to be had where they could acquire both their 14th and 18th picks,” Siegel wrote. “The Hornets showed no interest in trading both picks, with sources indicating that they’re very comfortable maintaining their position in the draft.”

This trade would've made perfect sense for both parties. As much as the Hornets could benefit from adding quantity over quality, they would've had a better shot at a starting-caliber star with the Warriors' No. 11 pick.

The Warriors, on the other hand, would've probably tried to package both of the Hornets' picks to land someone who can help them win right now. They've been tied to LeBron James and even Kawhi Leonard in recent weeks.

James is a free agent, and he's reportedly considering a move to the Bay Area. As for Leonard, the Clippers may not be interested in parting ways with their franchise star.

Whatever the case, the Warriors can't afford to rest on their laurels again. Curry is still a superstar, but Father Time is ruthless, and they must improve his supporting cast while he can still lead a team to the top.
