More information about assault allegation against Jets QB Geno Smith revealed

Per TMZ Sports and NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, a woman named Kristen took to social media on Sunday to make assault allegations against current New York Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith.

On Monday morning, Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida shared an update on the situation via X (formerly known as Twitter).

Geno Smith was not taken into custody after concerning allegations

"New York Jets QB Geno Smith was being investigated for alleged battery on Sunday, but I am told the case is no longer open," Slater wrote. "Cops went to Smith’s house after being called, checked everything out, and left with no one being taken into custody."

According to Edward Lewis of The California Post, police officers arrived at Smith’s Florida home on Sunday "at around 4:40 p.m." ET after a call was made about an alleged battery. A spokesperson for the Davie, Fla., police department confirmed that "no one was taken into custody on scene" after the woman, apparently named Kristen, shared one video that seemed to show Smith speaking with three police officers outside of his home.

As of early Monday afternoon, neither the Jets nor Smith had publicly commented on the accusations made against the journeyman signal-caller.

What are the Jets' options if Geno Smith becomes unavailable for any reason?

Smith was first with the Jets from when they made him a second-round pick during the 2013 draft through the 2016 season. This past March, the Jets brought Smith back to his first NFL home when they completed a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Shortly after that transaction became official, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that Smith is on track to serve as the team's 2026 Week 1 starter. The Jets later grabbed signal-caller Cade Klubnik with a 2026 fourth-round draft pick, but he is seen as a developmental prospect.

If Smith becomes unavailable to play for any reason, either 2025 undrafted rookie Brady Cook or fellow backup Bailey Zappe could start for the Jets instead of Klubnik. Previous stories indicated the Jets will not bid on controversial quarterback Brendan Sorsby during this year's supplemental draft, but it's unknown if the Smith story could impact the Jets' plans regarding Sorsby.
