Buffalo Bills legend Jim Kelly feeling 'good' after suffering a stroke

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly is on the mend after suffering a stroke earlier this year.

This is according to Kelly himself, who was speaking at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Buffalo Bills' new stadium, which will be known as the new Highmark Stadium

The legendary Buffalo quarterback, 66, had to spend a few days in the hospital, but he told reporters gathered at Highmark Stadium that he's feeling better.

"I had a little setback about a month-and-a-half ago," Kelly said, according to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN. "But right now, I feel good. Eyesight's not great. My hearing still sucks, but that's part of life."

This has undoubtedly been a setback for Kelly. He has been diagnosed with cancer several times. In 2013, he had surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma in his upper jawbone. He had a round of chemotherapy in 2014 for cancer is his maxillary sinus cavity. In 2018, he had to have another surgery to remove oral cancer and reconstruct his upper jaw.

Kelly does seem to be taking it all in stride, though.

He revealed that recent scans have looked good, and he seems more intent on enjoying Buffalo football in the new stadium than anything else.

"It's going to be special, not only for the players, but imagine the fans in there, how crazy and wild and loud they're going to get," Kelly said. "And that's what I'm looking forward to. I want to see how loud this stadium can get. And from what I've been told, it's going to be unbelievable, but I don't expect anything less."

Kelly was the 14th overall pick of the 1983 NFL Draft, and he played his entire NFL career, which spanned 11 seasons, with the Bills.

He threw for a total of 35,467 yards and 237 touchdowns against 175 interceptions.

Kelly is still a top-40 quarterback all-time when it comes to career passing yards and touchdowns. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and received first-team All-Pro honors in 1991.
