Blue Jays must hold onto these three high-value prospects at MLB trade deadline

With the Toronto Blue Jays pushing to remain in wild-card contention this season, they are in the trade market looking to acquire starting pitching.

They will likely have to give up top prospects if they are going to trade for a controllable high-end starter at the deadline. But there are a trio of prospects the Blue Jays should avoid trading at the deadline as they present a bright future for the team.

Their performances this season in the minors have been hard to ignore and their futures with the Blue Jays look bright.

Let's analyze three Blue Jays prospects whose dominant performances make them high-end prospect capital that's worth holding onto.

JoJo Parker

The Blue Jays' No. 1-ranked prospect via the MLB Pipeline, JoJo Parker has found his rhythm with Dunedin, recording a .248 batting average with seven home runs, 38 RBI, 15 doubles, two triples, 24 extra-base hits and a .376 OBP.

He's a homegrown offensive talent projected to provide long-term success but also defensive versatility in the infield at both shortstop and third base. He represents himself as a cornerstone piece for Toronto's future infield.

The 19-year-old had a remarkable performance this week, boasting a .300 average with three home runs, nine RBI and a 1.314 OPS. He has continued to heat up at the plate.

While the Blue Jays 2025 first-round pick has continued to rake. he also has demonstrated elite speed with 19 stolen bases this season, illustrating how he has an all-round comprehensive profile.

Sean Keys

No. 14-ranked prospect Sean Keys will provide the Blue Jays with a left-handed power bat, who is likely to even earn a call-up this season if he continues his offensive hot streak.

As a corner infielder, he provides depth at first and third base. Since being promoted to the Buffalo Bisons on June 5, he has put up a stellar performance, batting .280 with 1.050 OPS with four doubles, one triple and four home runs across just 15 games.

He has demonstrated his ability to steadily hit for power, with a .286 batting average, 20 home runs, 52 RBI and a .411 OBP across Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo this season.

Keys has surpassed expectations this season as he has shaped out to be the top power bat in the Blue Jays pipeline with a 1.026 OPS, 53% hard-hit rate and 13.9 % walk rate, demonstrating sneaky-raw power.

Johnny King

Vancouver Canadians High-A No. 3 top-ranked prospect Johnny King is a reliable left-handed starter who has proved to be one of the best arms in the Blue Jays farm system. He owns a 2-1 record with a 2.47 ERA with 66 strikeouts.

The highly touted prospect has held opponents to a .203 batting average with an 84.7% LOB (left on base) rate. That demonstrates how effective he is at limiting hard-contact, as he has also only allowed four home runs across 47.1 innings pitched. He also possesses an electric fastball that adds to his high-ceiling profile.

King represents a future high-upside ace for the Blue Jays franchise. Trading him would have the Blue Jays lose a potential ace who hasn't even had the opportunity to unleash his full potential yet.

Since the Blue Jays are already running thin on pitching depth, it would be wise to keep King as he is the highest-ceiling arm in the system.
