Yankees waste Cam Schlittler's historic outing in loss to Red Sox

With consecutive shutouts, the last time Schlittler was charged with a runner scoring against him was on June 13 in Toronto. He's only let six runs score combined in five starts in the month. 

Cam Schlittler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2026 

Schlitter's overall season has him firmly in the American League Cy Young race. The second-year pitcher, who made his MLB debut last season on July 9, is now 8-4 with a 1.62 ERA, 118 strikeouts and just 20 walks in his first 17 starts in 2026. 

Going deeper into his early-season success, he carries a 0.92 WHIP, having only coughed up 18 earned runs off 72 hits in exactly 100.0 innings. 

Cam Schlittler was even dominant at times as a rookie

While his sophomore season has been historic to this point, Schlittler put together a rookie campaign to be proud of as well. In 14 outings and 73.0 innings of work in 2025, Schlittler went 4-3 with a 2.96 ERA, 84 punch outs, just 31 free passes and a 1.22 WHIP. 

Failing to win another shutout by Schlittler will have Yankees fans questioning if Aaron Boone should've left the young ace in the game longer. 

The Yankees will have a chance at revenge against their rival with three more battles left in the four-game series. Granted, they won't have Schlittler for any of the remaining games.
