DeAndre Hopkins sends message to teams amid Brandon Aiyuk, Stefon Diggs uncertainty

Teams in need of help at the wide receiver position were routinely linked with names such as Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers and free-agent Stefon Diggs throughout the spring.

Meanwhile, veteran DeAndre Hopkins is also available. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Hopkins sent a message regarding what he could offer a team during the upcoming season.

DeAndre Hopkins willing to accept reduced role to chase a Super Bowl ring?

"I still got a lot ball left," Hopkins insisted, per Nick Shook of the NFL's website. "But it's not a situation I'm sitting here trying to force or go out and be the regular-season superstar because that's for the young guys, man. That's for the people that they want to develop and give those contracts for the future. I know in my position, I'm a utility guy. I'm a special situation kind of guy. I can go out there and beat anybody one-on-one at any time, but as of lately, I've been a third-down guy. I wasn't used in the red zone last year. But (on) third down, they're gonna put D-Hop in, they're gonna come to me. I don't think that'll change anytime soon."

Physically speaking, Hopkins clearly isn't what he was during the prime of his stellar career. In total, the 34-year-old recorded just 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns over 17 games with the Baltimore Ravens last season.

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are among the promising teams that presumably could use a weapon such as Hopkins. Washington reportedly may have "reservations" about acquiring Aiyuk due to his recent social media posts. As for Diggs, it's unknown why he has remained unsigned after it was learned that "there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of a personal conduct policy violation" following an NFL investigation of an alleged incident involving the 32-year-old.

DeAndre Hopkins in "no rush" to sign with the wrong team

"Going into year 14, I would love to play for a competitor if that time came," Hopkins added. "But I'm not in no rush to go out and be a regular-season superstar because for me, I'm not getting a contract extension."

It sounds like Hopkins will be willing to wait to see if a contender loses a pass-catcher to an injury at some point.
