Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen only had Sean McDermott as a head coach from the time the Bills selected Allen in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft up until McDermott was unceremoniously fired this past winter.
The Bills ultimately promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the role of head coach, which should help Allen make a smooth transition. During a recent NFL Network appearance, Allen indicated nothing has changed about his long-term goals since he last took the field.
"We're gonna figure things out," Allen explained, per Nick Shook of the NFL's website. "Obviously, we go to camp July 28. That's really where you make your team. But like you said, a lot of new faces, offense, defense, staff-wise. New stadium. New head coach. So, there is a lot of new, and we're looking forward to getting out there and really learning each other and building that team camaraderie when we go to St. John Fisher in Rochester. But, yeah, it's another tough task, but the goal remains the same, and that's to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Western New York. And we're going to do everything in our power to make that happen."
Allen was left teary-eyed after he committed four turnovers in the Bills' 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs this past January. Meanwhile, the combination of Allen and McDermott went 0-4 against the Kansas City Chiefs in postseason play.
The perception exists that Allen is the main reason Brady is now the Bills' head coach. Additionally, Buffalo did Allen a solid when the club acquired wide receiver D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears back in March.
"I think what D.J.'s gonna bring to us, obviously veteran leadership, he's been in the league as long as I've been in the league, and he's produced at such a high level for the last eight years," Allen said about Moore during the segment. "Just really getting to know him, we're locker mates, and to have that relationship that we already have, it's a pretty seamless fit. I'm excited to continue to get to work with him. He's going to be a huge help for us this next season and seasons to come."
As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Bills and Baltimore Ravens tied for second among the betting favorites at +1000 odds to win Super Bowl LXI in February 2027. That says plenty about the expectations hovering over Allen and Co. amid the NFL's ongoing summer break.
