The Golden State Warriors might be one of the most aggressive teams in the NBA offseason.
They've been tangled up in trade rumors for Kawhi Leonard, and they might be one of the leading candidates to sign LeBron James.
According to HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto, they're also keeping tabs on New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.
“Golden State has also been one of many interested suitors in New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, and the two teams have discussed concepts involving the No. 11 pick, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto reported before the NBA Draft.
However, now that the Warriors used that pick on Yaxel Lendeborg, and considering the Pelicans' asking price for Murphy, the Warriors might be forced to pivot.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Pelicans want at least three first-rounders for their defensive stalwart:
“We’ve heard that the Pelicans have established basically a three first-round pick price threshold in order to move off of Murphy, and we’ll see if they’re able to get that,” Fischer reported.
Once an overlooked role player, Murphy has blossomed into an OG Anunoby-type of elite role player. He's expanded his range and added a three-point shot to his offensive repertoire, and his ability to guard multiple positions is extremely valuable for a team with championship aspirations.
The Warriors took a player with a similar skill set in Lendeborg, though he's still a rookie.
That said, the Michigan product is already 24 and one of the most NBA-ready prospects we've seen in years, so he might be able to bring a similar contribution to the table for Steve Kerr's team.
Murphy will continue to be a name to keep an eye on in the trade market, especially if the Pelicans struggle again early next season.
