The Baltimore Orioles are not yet ready to give up on the 2026 season.
Despite entering Saturday with a 39-44 record, the Orioles are only 1.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League. This has not escaped the notice of Orioles general manager Mike Elias, who told Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun that the Orioles are "going for it."
The Orioles entered Friday as one of six teams within 1.5 games of the final wild-card spot. They are also only 3.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians, who currently possess the fifth spot in the playoff hunt.
The Orioles have clear needs if they are going to contend for a playoff berth. Third baseman Coby Mayo has continued to struggle to establish himself as a viable major league option. The rotation and back of the bullpen could use an upgrade.
Likewise, the Orioles have several intriguing options should they fall out of the playoff chase. Outfielder Taylor Ward has only hit five home runs this season, but he did hit 36 homers in 2025. Tyler Wells has been solid in middle relief and has another year of team control. Pitcher Trevor Rogers has been excellent in June, posting a 2.05 ERA and a 0.913 WHiP over his 30.2 innings. While his overall numbers may be shaky, Rogers could be a solid addition to a contending pitching staff.
There is plenty of time until the trade deadline. As it stands, the Orioles are looking to add to the roster for a postseason push, but that could change in the coming weeks.
