Jon Rahm is still under contract with LIV Golf and suspended by the PGA Tour, but he's found his way back to the big leagues for at least one week. On Thursday, July 9, Rahm will return to the PGA Tour to play in the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
Tyrrell Hatton, his fellow LIV Golf star and Legion XIII teammate, will be joining him in the field.
Rahm isn't allowed to compete in PGA Tour-sanctioned events, but the Genesis Scottish Open offers the one loophole he can exploit. Because the Genesis Scottish Open is a co-sanctioned event with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, LIV Golf players are eligible to enter the tournament. Rahm is still a member of the DP World Tour now that he's settled his dispute with the European league, so he's permitted to play in the Genesis Scottish Open even though the PGA Tour co-sanctions the event.
When Rahm tees off at The Renaissance Club, it will mark his first PGA Tour start since the 2023 Tour Championship. The 31-year-old has won four LIV events and recorded four top-10 finishes at majors since then.
In the same span, Rahm has four major finishes outside the top 35, including two missed cuts. He hasn't won a major since the 2023 Masters, which has raised concerns about his lighter schedule and lack of competition against the best players on the PGA Tour.

Rahm's upcoming start at the Genesis Scottish Open will give him some crucial reps ahead of the Open Championship, especially considering LIV Golf doesn't host another tournament until July 13 in the United Kingdom.
This doesn't mean the feud between Rahm and the PGA Tour is over. As long as the Spaniard continues to compete on LIV Golf, he'll remain suspended from playing in PGA Tour events. The Genesis Scottish Open and the four major championships present the only pathways for Rahm and other LIV golfers to compete against the best players in the world.
